Famous for their wood fired pizzas, live music and relaxed atmosphere, Two Mile Bay Sailing Club is not only a favourite among Taupo’s locals, but their dogs too! Don’t just take our word for it, Two Mile’s Facebook page is inundated with rave reviews – a solid 4.9 stars from 128 opinions is nothing to be sniffed at. It’s safe to say it’s an absolute must see if you are visiting the area or even just passing through.
Super dog friendly with the loveliest staff, Two Mile is our top pick if you’re looking for a place to meet friends, walk the pooch and enjoy a good, casual meal. Situated on the edge of Lake Taupo, they are open from 7am till 10pm, giving you plenty of options for dining or a quick drink. Walk your pup along the shoreline before parking up on one of the benches on the sand, or you can also take your dog right in to the restaurant which is built out across the water. Live music brings the crowds in every Friday and Sunday night, and they also present regular events throughout the year, including comedy nights, sailing and fishing competitions, ladies’ nights and their famous New Years’ Eve party.
If you’ve got a bit of energy to burn, Two Mile offers a wide range of water sports to try out, including sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing. In the summer months kids flock to the inflatable raft, set up within perfect distance from their parents’ gaze. They offer instructions on all the water sport equipment, including their purpose-built mini keeler yachts which are perfect to line up for races around their set course with no experience needed!
To top it off, the first Saturday of every month is Two Mile’s famous Dog and Grog event – between 1 and 3pm if you bring your dog along and buy a Peroni or a glass of wine you get a free pizza! Let your dog socialise and tire himself out while you enjoy good food, good drink and good times.
Having been around for 30 years, it’s clear that the Two Mile Bay Sailing Club is a local treasure and with good reason, so round up the crew and make sure it’s on your list for your next central North Island roadie.
