Glamping experiences are all the rage at the moment. Perfectly enjoyed any time of the year, glamping is at the top of our list of favourite things to do in our beautiful country and when you can take your dog along for the ride with you, we can guarantee it will be yours too.
If you’re a paw-rent just like us, you’ll get excited when we say we’ve finally found a glamping experience that welcomes us and our four-legged friends. You’ll know what we mean when we say pet-friendly accommodation is hard to come by so the one and only, luxurious Te Tuhi Dome is something we can totally get behind.
Situated a brief 15 minute drive out of Taupo near the beautiful Kinloch Bay, those venturing will find the team at Canopy Campings’ latest offering, the Te Tuhi Dome: a geodesic glamping structure (or big, beautiful dome) with gorgeous styling, an outdoor bathroom and views across farmland, native bush and out to Lake Taupo like never seen before.
The Te Tuhi Dome is not only luxurious, but totally and utterly magical. Let the structural dome envelop you as you step foot in one of New Zealand’s little pieces of paradise. And whilst you may not notice it at first, the well-kitted out kitchen is only a stone’s throw away providing guests with a Weber BBQ, gas stove and several big boards for all the cheese platters you’ll be throwing together to enjoy. Indulge until your heart (and stomach’s) content before preparing a European log fire to warm up the night, lighting up the dome with an alluring glow. So pour yourself a glass of red, curl up with your pup and get comfy as you gaze out over the horizon, stars sprinkled across the sky.
After such a restful night we couldn’t agree more, nothing beats a sleep in on a weekend getaway. But we must admit, the birdsong that’ll wake you at dawn may come as a welcoming surprise. With an outdoor ceramic bath perched atop the hill offering unreal views of the sun rise over the hills, it’ll be hard to find an excuse to stay in bed any longer than you should. Why not make a morning cuppa and take it with you? We can guarantee this ‘pinch me’ moment will be nothing but pure bliss.

Let your dog run free within the fenced area surrounding the dome and as long as your pooch is stock friendly (chickens, sheep, cows and horses) you’re all good to go!
