A pilot, a flight attendant and a frequent flyer walk into a bar… it may sound like the opening line of a joke, but it’s actually the start of Brewport’s story.
Nestled down a fairy light-lit alleyway off Ponsonby Road and behind Mackelvie St, you’ll find Ponsonby’s first-ever brewery. Bring your canine companion right into the beer garden, where you’re sheltered by a retractable roof and tucked away from the road – there’s absolutely no segregation at Brewport, and we are completely here for it! As soon as you step inside this aviation-inspired eatery, you’re greeted with open arms by staff and the owners, who are entirely hands-on in the business and clearly love what they do. Grab a seat and order from the table or head up to the bar where you’ll find Brewport’s own ales being served straight from huge brewing tanks. Quench your thirst with one of their seasonal brews, or opt for a pint of the other local offerings on tap. The wine, champagne and cocktail menu will satisfy the non-beer drinkers amongst us, and with Happy Hour running from 4pm – 6.30pm, Tuesday – Friday, this is a local watering hole not to be passed up. You may even be lucky enough to experience a bit of live music!
Dog friendly, but on a whole other level.
Now, to the most important part. Brewport really could not get any more dog friendly – avid dog lovers themselves, the staff and owners love meeting their four-legged guests. Armed with an offering of handmade dog biscuits which are free with every drink purchase, they make canines and their owners feel part of the atmosphere. If your pup can’t join you, biscuits are also available for purchase in gift bags, so you can take home a souvenir for your best mate. If that’s not enough, every Wednesday from 4pm bring your dog to Paws and Pints, Brewport’s weekly doggie gathering. While your pup socialises and enjoys a healthy treat, you can sit back with a cheeky beverage on Happy Hour. It’s a bit like Brewport has thought of everything. Oh, so you’re after a doggie menu? The bar menu offers uncomplicated comfort food designed for sharing and includes (arguably) the best Polenta Fries you have ever tasted. Tuck into old favourites like Tater Tots, Wedges and Broccoli Cheese Bites, or order a ‘Flying Dog’ from the onsite caravan kitchen – these gourmet hot dogs are next level and come highly recommended!
Keen for a good time and not a long time?
Brewport also offers an in-house cafe, serving up all your favourite coffees, teas and Best Ugly Bagels – order online or on location, and take it on the run with you. These guys truly offer something for everyone at every time of day, so we would not blame you if you came here morning, noon and night! Our breakfast pick? The Sushi Bagel – drool.
