Set in the historic precinct of Arrowtown sits Stag’s Head Cottage, well within an easy 7 minute stroll to the top end of Arrowtown Village with its mix of dining, entertainment, bars and shopping. Your pup won’t believe what’s in store for him as you pull into the driveway of this charming, character home. With a steel sculptured stag’s head welcoming you at the front gable of the property, the beautifully maintained grounds are heaven for a dog to explore and you’ll appreciate the outdoor haven with a new BBQ, brazier and stunning views of the Arrow Hills.
With off road parking for 3 vehicles and space for 8 people, make it a getaway for family or friends – your pooch can even bring a mate too! A small fee of $23 applies for up to two dogs to stay at this property. The house offers 2 well-appointed bedrooms with luxury bedding (king and queen) plus new modern tiled bathroom with underfloor heating. In addition there are 4 king-single bunks in a separate sleep-out with TV – perfect for kids or the night owl members of your group!
A spacious and well-appointed kitchen (with Nespresso machine!) leads to the open plan lounge/dining area complete with leather couches, a bluetooth sound system and a Smart TV, so you won’t be stuck for relaxing entertainment. The cottage is well insulated so if you’re down for a winter holiday, you will be kept warm and cosy with a log burner, heat pump, heat transfer system and heaters in all the bedrooms. I think we can safely say nothing has been overlooked when it comes to total comfort in this home.
Last but not least – let’s not forget the lush outdoor hot tub! Set against a romantic backdrop of lavender and schist stone, make the most of this little bit of luxury with a glass of bubbles – just sit back, relax and enjoy.
In terms of dog-friendly activities in the area, you will be spoilt for choice with both easy strolls and challenging hikes available on your doorstep.
A short walk off the main street of Arrowtown will take you around the partially restored buildings from the Chinese Settlement in 1880s. Follow the stream through the trees and view these historic huts at your own leisure. This walk is great for some fresh air and experiencing what Arrowtown has to offer from its back doorstep. It is an easy access walk and dogs are welcome on a leash.
If you’re after something a little longer, The River Track walk is one of the most popular in Arrowtown. Only a short 5 minute walk from the main street, follow the river down stream and you will end up at the bridge which is the start of the 4km loop track. The track is mostly flat ground with a few small hills to keep the heart rate pumping. It is a relatively easy level track that is perfect for walking with your dogs and/or children, biking and running, and offers calming scenery as you walk under the trees with the sound of the river next to you.
If you are up for a hill walk, this is one we would recommend! Tobins Track starts at the River Track bridge and takes you straight up the ridge line over Arrowtown. On average, it takes just over an hour to get up and back with a distance of 5km in total. This walk is dog friendly and with the gradual incline up the whole way, we would recommend an easy to moderate fitness level. Trust us, the view from the top is worth it!
Once you’ve had your fair share of exercise, hit the the dog friendly and very famous Cardrona Hotel. Relax and unwind withyour mates, your pooch and a cheeky beverage or three.
